Generic Zantac (Ranitidine, Zantac® equivalent)

Ranitidine is in a group of medications called histamine-2 blockers. Ranitidine works by reducing the amount of acid your stomach produces. Ranitidine is used to treat and prevent ulcers in the stomach and intestines. It also treats conditions in which the stomach produces too much acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Ranitidine also treats gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and other conditions in which acid backs up from the stomach into the esophagus, causing heartburn.

WOMEN'S SEXUAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS

Cancer of the breast, cervix, and uterus are all major illnesses affecting women's health and wellness. Therefore, only a reminder of the need for regular medical checkups and breast self-examinations once each menstrual cycle is offered here.
One of the most prevalent conditions affecting women's sexual health and wellness is vaginal infection. Vaginal infections occur in two major forms: Trichomonas vaginitis and Monilial vaginitis. Trichomonas vaginitis is caused by a one-celled microorganism called Trichomonas vaginalis and results in frothy, greenish-white or yellowish-brown, foul-smelling discharge. This discharge is usually accompanied by a burning and itching sensation of the vagina and vulva. The most effective treatment is with a drug called Flagyl (metronidazole), which should also be administered to the woman's sexual partner.
Monilial vaginitis is a fungus or yeast infection caused by Candida albicans, a microorganism usually found in the vagina. This infection can be recognized by a thick, white, and cheesy discharge accompanied by itching. Treatment entails the use of vaginal creams or suppositories containing prescription medications such as Monistat (miconozole) or Lotrimin or Mycelex (clotrimazole). With this infection, treatment of the sexual partner is not necessary since Monilial vaginitis is not transmitted sexually.
The risk of contracting vaginal infections can be minimized by the following:
1. Wear cotton underwear, rather than nylon or other synthetic fiber or pantyhose. Cotton does not retain heat and moisture that allow bacteria to grow.
2. Avoid douching, which removes natural, protective microorganisms.
3. Wipe from front to back after going to the bathroom to avoid bringing bacteria from the rectum toward the vagina.
4. Regularly wash the genitals and anal region.
5. Avoid the use of feminine hygiene sprays, which can irritate the skin.
